Truths from the Book of
Habakkuk
Habakkuk: Meaning “He that embraces; a wrestler” or “the strong embrace of God.” Context: Worshipping the true God in the midst of a disintegrating culture. Main point: From Habakkuk worrying about national circumstances to Habakkuk worshipping the true God.
1. The Prophet Perplexed
(1:1-4) - Habakkuk sees great evil in the land and he is
perplexed that God does not punish the iniquity of Judah.
2. The Lord’s Reply (1:5-11) - The Lord replies to
Habakkuk that He - God - will use the Babylonians to punish
Judah.
3. The Prophet Questions God’s Reply (1:12-17) -
Habakkuk questions God’s choice of a more wicked nation to punish
Judah.
4. God’s Answer (2:1-2:20) - The just people in
Judah will survive, and the unjust Chaldeans will die.
5. From Worry to Worship (3:1-19) - The prophet
Habakkuk, in the midst of horrible circumstances and an uncertain
future, chooses to pray, trust and rely upon the Lord.
